Q1 2026 Private Equity Insights: Mid-Market Momentum Is Back
The private equity mid-market opened 2026 with a strong surge in activity — 749 closed deals (+17.8% MoM) and $15.2B in disclosed deal volume (+41.1% MoM) — backed by $645.9B in US dry powder as of March 31. GPs are deploying more decisively, deal timelines are compressing to ~1.6 months, and LP appetite remains strong as evidenced by major fund closes from Greenbriar Equity Fund VII ($5.4B) and Lindsay Goldberg VI ($4.9B).
For CEOs and CFOs at PE-backed and middle market companies, the sector picture is equally telling. IT led capital deployment at ~26% — up sharply from ~17% last quarter — followed by B2B (20%), Financial Services (19%), and Healthcare (18%). With the $10M–$100M deal segment driving nearly 60% of activity, the core middle market is firmly in focus. Whether you’re considering a liquidity event, an add-on acquisition, or simply taking stock of where the market stands, Q1 2026 signals this is the time to be paying attention.
