Hiring an outside vendor has many advantages – from leveraging experience you just don’t have or purchasing power you can’t compete with, to reducing operational costs and improving delivery speed.  Of course, you must be willing to share your organizational goals with the vendor and relinquish at least some control over the project/function while resisting the urge to micromanage.
Ask yourself these two simple questions to determine if you need an outside vendor to support your activities:
- Is the business function in question directly related to your company’s vision and mission?
- Is your size and growth rate sufficient to support bringing this inhouse?
If the answer is no to either of these questions, bring in a vendor.
