Brian Smith is a Managing Director and leads our Outsource CFO Team within our Fund Solutions practice. Brian brings over 30 years of experience with a focus on alternative investment fund administration and operations.
Prior to joining E78, Brian was the Regional Head of Hedge Funds – Americas with Apex Group, Ltd. In this role, Brian served as a Board of Director member for several of Apex’s regional business units, was on the regional client acceptance committee for all new business development activities, and was responsible for general oversight of operational and client functions for open-ended products as well as Apex Tax offering for the Americas offices. During his tenure at Apex, Brian also held the roles of Managing Director, Head of Operations, and Senior Account Manager/Chief Compliance Officer.
Before his start with Apex, Brian was an owner, Director, and Chief Compliance Officer at Pinnacle Fund Administration LLC. As part of this role, Brian shared responsibility for business development, operations, and firm compliance as well as review of NAVs on 40+ funds across a variety of disciplines including long/short equity, fund of fund, private equity, global microfinance, peer to peer, bank debt, and fixed income arbitrage.
Brian started his career as a Senior Fund Accountant with Lexington Global Asset Managers, and subsequently held leadership positions with PFPC, Inc., and NationsBanc Advisors, Inc / Bank of America, NA.
Brian earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Siena College, Loudonville, New York.
